Special Announcement: 988

On July 16th, the federal government updated the national crisis and suicide hotline to three simple numbers: 988. The old number (1-800-273-TALK or 1-800-273-8255) will continue to function as well.

Just as you can call 911 for medical emergencies 24/7, you can now call or text 988 for any kind of mental health crisis. 988 is a hotline for all mental health emergencies. The mental health provider you reach on the line is trained for suicide prevention, substance use crisis, and any kind of emotional distress.

There are over 200 dispatch crisis centers nation wide and you will be connected to the one closest to you when you call 988. When you call you will get different options that include a Veterans Crisis Line or services in Spanish. You can also call on behalf of someone else to get advice or help in aiding your loved ones.

Given that as a nation we have had a dramatic increase in mental health crises, this is a very important service to have at our access. Please pass on this information to everyone. You never know when you may need to call.
